My experience is there’s something out there greater than I that has it all under control

mind cosmic blueFriends ask how I can be so uninterested in politics and so calm in the face of what’s going on. I guess because I’m busy attending to “what’s going on” in my own life. We’re all free to choose what to believe. I believe in what I myself have experienced. My experience is there’s something up there or out there greater than I that has it all under control. My experience is that this (something) is responsive to me, has my well being in mind and is activated by my attention and by my intention. My experience is that my hopeful thoughts on behalf of friends and family somehow have a hand in impacting their experience. Some would say that’s God working through prayer. Some would say the Universe is responding to my intention and affirmations. Some would say it’s destiny, that there’s no cause and effect to my actions.  Continue reading

It’s not always about how much I can get done

arms relaxing-on-beachKeeping my right arm in a sling the past few weeks, it’s healing up. It’s a real lesson in surrendering control, doing things with one hand and asking people to help me. I’m learning to be less of a control freak and that it’s not always about “how much can I get done today” or “how many dollars can I make with how much I can get done today?”

I dream Bernie Sanders is President

Sleep restful by pinoI had a dream last night of Bernie Sanders being president. I wondered how he made it beyond the primaries due to the nature of the electoral system. As I had that thought, a classroom chalkboard appeared where someone stood writing equations. The chalk board had at the top the words Common Core Math. I took that to mean that there would be confusion due to something different about counting the votes during that election, like there would be a new way to figure it or to justify the results.

Introducing Horizons’ New Astrologer Maya White

Master Destination Astrologer Maya White

Master Destination Astrologer

Hello. Although I have many clients from around the world, perhaps we’ve never met, so I was asked to share a bit about myself. I now spend my time between Los Angeles and South Florida. Having lived in Hollywood, Florida from 2003 – 2010, I am a long time reader and fan of Horizons. Through a totally synchronistic beauty of the Universe, I’m now delighted to be a part of Horizons Magazine.  As a soul based astrologer, I talk to many people about life purpose, but I was unable to grasp my own for many years. And, I have lived through those ‘Dark Nights of the Soul’. Many of my Florida friends helped me recuperate from a tragic automobile accident in 2004. I also endured many miserable J.O.B.’s. I always loved astrology, and had done readings part time since the age of 14, but never thought I could make a living doing it.  However, in 1998, after being fired from a (terrible) job (that I hated) as an Administrate Assistant, my world crashed – hard. I dreamed I returned jewelry to a former boyfriend

I had a dream that I was looking for a former boyfriend to return an expensive gift. In real life, we dated in my 30’s and he gifted me some very expensive jewelry. When we parted, I offered to let him have it back since he was more serious about the relationship than I was. My feeling about gifts of expensive jewelry is that they are given to the one considered “the partner.” If I don’t consider myself a permanent partner, I don’t feel right keeping the jewelry. In real life, he understood and took back some pieces and let me keep some. He said no one had ever returned jewelry and that showed I really loved him despite wanting to part. I wanted to part because we wanted different things and I knew if he was dating me he could not find his true love. In the dream, he’d mailed me all the jewelry that I’d returned to him 30 years ago. I recognized it all when I opened the package, some I had forgotten about, and in real life I haven’t thought about it in 30 years. It was cool seeing it again.   Continue reading

The most enlightened people on the planet

MrRogersI’m starting to get a sneaking suspicion that the most enlightened people on the planet are not the pastors and self-help authors and spiritual teachers and famous gurus, but the people who tend to go unnoticed and unappreciated for their spiritual wisdom — the gardeners, the nannies, the housekeepers, the janitors at the workplace, the stay-home parents, the kindergarten teachers, the dry cleaners, the waitresses — the ones who have nothing left to prove and are only here to serve and love and be present, to demonstrate how even the small things can be viewed as miracles. Maybe we get seduced by the others, but it seems to me that the showy ones are often just that — full of bravado and charisma and good intentions, but not necessarily full of real wisdom. Is it just me or do others sense this too?  Lissa Rankin  Find Lissa Rankin on Facebook

Post Layout Musings

The February Horizons Magazine has finally gone to press. This time took me a little bit longer because I am resting my right arm and trying to do everything with the left. That just means things take a little bit longer. What I’ve been doing the last 2 weeks while I have been in final layout is to simply forego a lot of daily chores such as cleaning, cooking. I’ve let boxes stack up in the living room so that I can later take them to the garage and break them down flat for recycling. Basically anything not related to getting the magazine out was set aside for two weeks.   Continue reading

Get out of the recliner!

man in reclinerMy brother knows I’m awake in the midnight hours so he texted me at 2 a.m. from the gym. He just joined a gym for the first time in a decade or more. He retired from Honeywell Aerospace in 2012 and spent the last three years remodeling his home and his kids’ homes and now finds himself the time on his hands. He likes to stay active so the gym was an obvious choice. He said he had to get back in the gym after retiring because “I had become part of that damn recliner. Just sitting there waiting for the Grim reaper.” I have the same thought if I spend too much time hanging in the recliner. A friend of mine says she sleeps so much because she keeps hoping that when she wakes up everything will be different. But that’s not how it works. Nothing changes unless she changes.
