I think Mercury Retrograde  gets a bad rap.  Since Mercury rules communication, people love to say “oh everything’s going wrong, that’s Mercury retrograde for you,” and that’s not the case at all.  Mercury Retrograde just means review, reconsider, return for more info. Pay extra attention to detail.  Check everything twice.  Slow down during this time, to be as effective as you can be. The way to make the most of Mercury retrograde is to not let it have any power over you. Stop keeping track of when it is.  If you can’t do that, then make Mercury retrograde a time for you to be extra careful paying attention to details.

Mercury goes retrograde May 18 through June 22 in Gemini.  To learn how this will affect you, look to the area of your horoscope where Gemini falls and expect to undergo some revision in that department for the next several weeks. Gemini is the house of communication. When Mercury goes retrograde in this house, a sort of fluid situation is reached where hell breaks lose in matters of communication. All judgments made during this time would be vague and unclear. Frustrations creep in as all ambitions and plans are put to the back burner. There is so much that can be told from your astrology chart. The 2018 Mercury retrogrades are all in fire signs this year. The retrograde in Aries may prompt childish behavior in those who don’t get their way, while Leo’s retrograde could lead to inflated egos and snobbery, even among the most humble. Mercury’s time spent in Sag will likely see spells of bad luck and grand, long-term plans going awry. The remedy? Take things slow. Act carefully and conscientiously.

When Mercury goes retrograde, that’s the time to slow down to notice changes you’d like to make, but you’ll wait to correct them after Mercury has gone direct.  During the retrograde, your time is best spent looking back in review – not looking forward. Astrologers say do not apply for a loan during this time, or interview for a new job.  Do not take a first date seriously. Do not begin a new partnership.  Hold off on romance.  Mates from the past may reappear, or perhaps just past relationship baggage will cloud your thought processes – and the new relationship.  Retrograde isn’t the time to break up or otherwise decide on a new direction in relationships. If you have to have “the talk,” hold off until Mercury goes direct.   Even if things have taken a turn for the worst, when Mercury goes direct, you could pick up where you left off.  That can be the good news and the bad news. Either way, it gives you the chance to make a clean break and smooth over the messy outburst neither of you intended 3 weeks ago. A retrograde is not the time to set a date or finalize any important plans, as they’ll likely end up needing redoing.  If you enter into contracts, make sure you read the fine print. This will save you much time and money later.

The houses are the 12 pie slices of the astrology wheel. Each house is associated with a set of traits, each has to do with a particular area of life and each is ruled by a different sign. When planets transit or move through a house, they activate the traits of that house.

First House
The first house represents the physical plane of experience that deals with the totality of the individual. It represents the physical body in general and the general constitution. It is a very significant house in that it deals with what others pick up about you; that all important first impression. It represents some of the very early childhood experiences that shaped your self image and your outlook on life. Look at planets in this house and/or it’s cusp ruling planet to get a feel for the individual life approach. The first house corresponds to Aries and so any planets in this house function with some underlying Aries style.
