Multiple Sclerosis is reverse-able and curable by diet

I have several friends who’ve been diagnosed with “MS.” There’s an article in a very recent edition of Popular Science that proposes that MS starts in the gut. The website www.overcomingmultiplesclerosis.com publishes a solution that reduces your chances of a relapse by 95%. And that’s one of several.  Patti Kimler writes: “My head is spinning. MS is reverse-able, even curable! But you have to be willing to change the way you eat. From several knowledgeable and experienced sources I have learned that the following are BAD: dairy, eggs, gluten, potatoes, grains, grain-fed meat. These are GOOD: grass-fed meat, berries, leafy greens, sulfur-rich veggies, seaweed. If it’s not organic we shouldn’t eat it because of the things it has (pesticide residue) and doesn’t have (nutrition). How well I plan and execute my diet will control if, and how fast, I get better.”

November 2014 Editorial

11-14 andrea Eileen Jacobs Beach Smiles 72Hello and welcome to the November 2014 edition of Horizons Magazine. It’s  finally cooling off and we’ve had all the windows open here at the office since mid October. It’s such a relief when the first cold fronts of the season bring drier  air. Being in the subtropics as we are in Florida, half the year our humidity is above 80% and in the summer it can be oppressive. Visitors remark that walking out of the airport in Florida for the first time, the humidity hits you like a wall of water, and you feel as though you’ve gained 50 pounds and are moving in slow motion. So when we get the first cool days of fall, everyone I know perks up and feels like frisking around in the outdoors.  The cooler weather also signals the end of another year, a time when many of us reflect back on the past 12 months and consider whether we’ve made progress toward those things we set goals for last year. I counsel with dozens of people each week, so it’s easy for me to see patterns of thought and behavior before others are aware of it. Many who set their goal last year of finding their calling, are frustrated that they haven’t made much progress. They’ve been buying all the right books and listening to the right tapes and attending the right seminars and still they feel stuck in a job they don’t enjoy.   Continue reading

He waves where he thinks the cameras are

Charley is my closest neighbor to the west, 4 lots of woods away.  He ripped out my mailbox on Mother’s Day 2010, and his dog bit me in 2007.  He has a habit of waving as he drives past my property, a big exaggerated hello in the direction of the giant bamboo. I suppose he thinks the security cameras are there because the sign is there. That tickles me twice a day.  I wrote about the dog bite here–>  http://horizonsmagazine.com/blog/?p=32661

I found my stash of wallpaper from 1986!

wallpaperI was all ready to paint or get new wallpaper for the kitchen to match the new stove, but it matches well right now. It’s 28 years old but I did such a good job putting it up that I can’t pull a loose edge anywhere. But I’m ready for a new look. Decisions, decisions.  YAY!  I went out to the garage to see if I had any oil based paint, but all I had was water based, which might lift the wallpaper. I looked at my stash of wallpaper from the 80’s to see if there was any I might use. Lo and behold! Guess who just found a double roll of my beloved kitchen wallpaper unopened from 1986. Yay for me for thinking ahead and buying extra of stuff like this. See why I love it? The little pineapples match my terra cotta colored counters perfectly!

A nighttime rainfall wakes up the windchimes

windchime rainThe night sky just opened up and the rains are coming down. I can hear the bamboo out there dancing around in it. I love how rain sounds hitting the metal roof of the back porch. All the windows are open, so it’s quite loud and the giant wind chimes in the courtyard are sounding like crazy. I’ve got the large long chimes, four and five feet long and they sound like cathedral bells when they get going.

Yep, WalMart on Halloween – and it wasn’t scary at all

WalMart on Halloween. I bought two more queen pillows as I pad the harem bed. I want all the head and body pillowcases to be one color so I bought six of them, navy blue. I’m washing them all now, and the pillows are washable as well. The giant sitting pillows are blue with deep red and gold angels on them. It’s a serene, chill place to lounge after work! And speaking of NOT snoozing, the man bought an espresso machine and just brewed his first cup of decaf espresso. Even decaf, he’s wired.

Paramahansa Yogananda film November 24 in Melbourne, FL

yoganandaMonday, November 24 at The Oaks in Melbourne  AWAKE: THE LIFE OF YOGANANDA –> details here.

Unrelated to this event, local peeps with an interest in Yogananda and Autobiography of a Yogi, please let me know you’re interested. His book was the first that awakened me to matters of the spirit in a way alternative to traditional Christian thought and brought on my first inner awakening.

Working up to full moon in Taurus on November 7, sun in Scorpio

moon halfFrom tonight on,the moon is waxing all the way to full moon in Taurus on November 7.  The Moon in Taurus wants us to find emotional fulfillment through the simple, tangible things in life, while the Scorpio Sun draws our attention to complexities, intangibles, and mysteries. This is a passionate and creative Full Moon, ripe with possibilities and learning experiences. Intimate relationship matters, such as personal comfort levels and values as well as sexuality, figure prominently now. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time—a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.  We were just outside looking up at it.  This is an enchanting magical neighborhood after nightfall, especially bathed in bright moonlight. I might have gotten a moon burn.

My new stove and range hood get installed

Whirlpool-Range-Model-WFE510S0ABI’ve been to the gym only a few times this month.  A headcold made me lazy for a week, then there was the November magazine to get to press, followed by a few days of repair at my rental and a day of running around the courthouse with a pal.  While all that activity is fine, it isn’t a workout and my body knows the difference. My body starts griping if I spend too much time at the desk, too, so I love it when I wake up — even after a physically demanding two days — and want to go to the gym first thing!  After a half hour on the elliptical, I came home to get ready for my new Whirlpool Self-Cleaning Electric Range Model WFE510S0AB to be delivered.  I’ve never had a smooth top cooking surface, so I’m excited to have a new experience.    Continue reading

Sometimes people just don’t think things through

I was just behind someone at the credit union who was aggravated the teller would not clear up a problem caused by the Dept of Motor Vehicles. “I’ve spoken to six people already who tell me it is not their problem. How can I get this fixed?” The teller was quite kind and looked up the address and suggested the gentleman go there. “That’s what the other guy said but you’re within walking distance.” WTF?
