I ended 2013 two pounds heavier than I began it, but I ended 2012 ten pounds lighter so I’m still ahead. It’s easy to maintain my flexibility and weight by daily yoga and keeping my fat grams under 60 a day, which I do. It’s easy to stay fit and toned if I work out every other day, which I… well, don’t… always. But I have found what works for me food wise. It only takes about a week to stop sugar cravings, since my sugar comes from bread. Last July, I began eating bread several times a week. Bread keeps an extra 4 pounds on me. So I can’t judge friends who say they’d like to get healthy and slim down then post high calorie recipes on Facebook. I find myself biting my tongue when they post pics of the delicious, huge high fat treats they’ve made their kids. The same reason I will not overfeed my pet, I don’t want them set up to develop health problems later on. I stay mum unless someone asks for my opinion.
A health event of my own in 2005 due to unhealthy eating was the reason I began my Goddess Grub website, Luscious Lowfat Meals for the Goddess on the Go. Had I listened to my wise and vegetarian brother Doug Cobb, I had the chance to chance my eating habits in 1996 and made the choice not to. Had I listened then, I could have avoided crisis nine years later. Partially due I’m sure to my unhealthy diet, nine years ago I was less tuned in to my intuitive guidance system. Changing my diet to less heavy, more natural and less processed foods has allowed my nervous system to become more attuned, making my spidey sense much clearer and more dependable.
I used to be hypnotized by food. I’d unconsciously eat things that were not good for me because I was addicted to the eating of them. Had I given it a moment’s genuine, conscious thought, I could have made other choices. It took a crisis to wake me up. If you cook for the ones you love, make a conscious choice to cook what you know is best for them. They’ll be around much longer to thank you for it.
