I wrote on Facebook last night: “I just noticed I have no quarterly property tax bills for 9/30/12 – I have notices of proposed taxes and new valuations saying tax bills will be sent out on Nov. 1. Does this mean no 9/30 payment or shall I go down to the tax office tomorrow with the 6/30/12 paid bills and pay on them anyway? The values and taxes appear to be the same…” Then I got the idea to go to the Property Appraiser’s website and see if they said something there about it. Upon inspection, I learned I could find and pay my taxes online there also. I went to the website and did a search, then clicked on the link for “Tax Collector Info” and the bill showed there. This happened because I got so used to having them sending me paper bills and return envelopes a month ahead of time, but I know it’s my responsibility to be aware of what I owe and when it is due, regardless of what “they” do. So I really have nothing to complain about. I paid the property taxes online on the spot.
Afterward: Two days later I found the property tax bills in my chair where I’d been sitting on them. I place things in my chair so I see them as soon as I go into the office. Unless I go in while it’s dark….
