Tuesday, January 6, 2009 Remember the movie Delirious where John Candy is the head writer for a soap opera and he gets conked on the head? In a dream he finds himself in his own soap opera and everything he types comes true. Someone is in trouble, he types in a scene that gets them out of trouble. He wants to hook up with Mariel Hemingway and he writes it into the script and it happens. Wouldn’t that be the deal? Everything you type come true?
Like in the movie Groundhog Day, Bill Murray wakes up to find that he is reliving February 2 over and over again. Everyone else is repeating the same actions as the day before, seemingly unaware of the time loop, though Murray remains aware of the events of the previous day. At first he is confused, but, when the loop continues, he starts to take advantage of the situation without fear of long-term consequences, learning secrets, seducing women, etc. That done, he then begins to reexamine his life and priorities. What if he was helpful to those whose paths he crossed that day? He began to find meaning in his life for the first time.
When you think about it, life is really like that. Most people are repeating the same actions as the day before, unaware of the time loop. We alone may be aware of what is going on. The others are lost in the movie. We can make it a practice to be helpful where we can, to the people who are placed before us each day.
One way to do that is to try out your own typewriter. Take a sheet of paper and write a quick 10 minute script of what you’d like your tomorrow to look like, or the rest of your week. What if it came true? Write it the way you want to live it. Mine right now might include:
I get all my tax documents copied first thing in the morning and take them in. I have done a good job and they are all accurate. I open the mail and log in the payments and make up a deposit to take to the bank. I am delighted at the many new ads and renewals. I check my email and find I have received many interesting items. I have also received a lot of notices of Paypal payments. I LOVE Paypal. I don’t have to run a credit card, I don’t have to write up a deposit slip or go to the bank. For the small fee they charge, I adore Paypal. I see I have sold dozens of mp3 files. I see that I have $2,000 in donations at the Horizons Magazine website. I begin getting in payments for the invoices and everyone is renewing and everyone pays six months ahead of time. I attract as many ads as I need and final layout for the February Horizons goes smoothly.
My script might further continue: Every day, authors and publicists are sending me interesting free material to share in the Horizons Magazine Newsletter . And “free” means you do not have to give up your email address to get it. Every day, I receive interesting articles on relevant topics. Every day, I receive cover art submissions that are really good. I have plenty of time to do everything that needs to be done. The work goes smoothly, everyone pays on time, and everyone has fun in the doing of it. I have free time to relax and enjoy life and family and friends. I meet interesting and dynamic people who are enjoyable to be around and who inspire me. I have plenty of time to do all that needs to be done, and plenty of time to spend doing the things I want to do. I enjoy everyone I come in contact with, we all have fun and the dollars flow. My income is secure because my dollars flow not from the magazine or my readings or my other projects. My dollars flow because of who I am and my intention to be of value and to do meaningful work in the world that benefits more than just me. The way these dollars express themselves may change through the years, but I know the source of my supply and when I align myself with who I really am, the dollars flow. That is how I know I am in the right place, because it becomes easy and effortless. When it becomes difficult and challenging, I will recognize that signal as time to make a new decision. Just as the oak tree lies latent within the acorn, just so do I grow to greatness from the Inside out; just so does my good flow to me as a result of who I am; And who am I? A child of God and it is His good pleasure to give me the Kingdom. A child of the Universe, no less than the moon and the stars. That’s the way I want to live it. How do you want to live it? Type it up and share it with me.
