So often in life we feel alone, as though we’re the only one thinking what we’re thinking; feeling what we’re feeling. This meditation done regularly will strengthen your feeling of connection with others and bring a deep sense of calm in your life:
Take a few deep, even breaths before we begin. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed, your spine straight and your body at ease. Breathe slowly and deeply, and feel all the tension flow out of your body, with every breath you take. Getting deeper and deeper relaxed, with every breath you take. Now envision breathing in healing, cleansing light and filling your body with it. The deeper you breathe in, the deeper you relax, and the brighter you shine with this brilliant, healing, cleansing light. Feel the light radiant within you and around you, and out from you toward the others in the room with you now.
As you sit and breathe, feel this glowing radiant light enfolding everyone in the room and imagine now a great, clear bubble of golden light surrounding everyone here in one giant, sparkling bubble of light. Know that as you sit and breathe together in this sparkling bubble of light, that you all share the same air and the air that flows through you flows through me and flows through everyone here. Know that as you sit here together, that you and the person next to you and the person next to her are each doing their best to find happiness in their life. Breathe with them and feel with them this yearning for happiness.
Know that as you sit and breathe together, that you and the person next to you, and the person next to her, have each experienced loss, limitation and loneliness. Breathe with them and feel compassion for their grief. Breathe with them and envision in your mind comforting them and hugging them in a loving way. Feel the compassion flow from your heart into theirs, healing their ache and making them whole. Place your hand over your heart now and breathe deep heart breaths with them, feeling your connectedness to each other.
Know that as you sit and breathe together, that you and the person next to you, and the person next to her, are each learning about life as best you can. Breathe with them and recognize that each is doing the best they can under the circumstances. Recognize that none of us mean to cause harm or distress to another, but that we get caught up in our own “stuff” and act selfishly sometimes. Breathe with them and envision in your mind being more allowing of the faults of others, and more accepting of them as they are right now, even when they are not allowing you.
Now bring your attention to someone you feel has wronged you. Bring into your mind the face of one who has caused you trouble or heartache. Get them clearly in your mind and remember a time when there was no conflict between you, when there was loving and light-hearted interaction together. Now extend your hand to them and look into their eyes and using only your eyes, extend your forgiveness to them. Welcome them into your heart and ask that they be guided to clarity and wisdom; that they be guided to peace of mind and recognition that all is One. See encased within their bodily disguise, a pure and radiant Jesus Christ, asking for your love no matter what disguise He may be in, no matter what troubles may be present. Look deep into his eyes and feel his total acceptance of you; acknowledge that he does not condemn you for not recognizing him – it was a very good disguise, wasn’t it? Smile with him as you feel your connection and acknowledge the lesson learned. Then dismiss him in a radiant, glowing, white bubble of Light, vowing to look closer next time, past the appearance of the person and situation, to seek the Christ within.
Now as you sit and breathe together, see yourself and the person next to you and the person next to her becoming conscious contributors to the peace and well-being of all of us. Know that your contribution toward healing others – and healing all of us collectively – is to take steps to heal yourself individually. Know that any work you do to heal yourself and bring yourself to a state of Self-awareness not only raises your consciousness, but raises the consciousness of everyone you come in contact with. Know that whatever you know and understand, they have access to, just because you know it and they know you. The greater your understanding, the greater understanding they have access to. Think back to your last “a-ha!” experience, and know that whatever idea or understanding you grasped at that time is now available for everyone else as well. This is how we change to the world. One step at a time; starting from right where we are.
Now slowly bring your attention back into the room and as you bring your awareness back, think of yourself again as a conscious contributor to the peace and well-being of everyone on Earth. Know that whatever you say and do to another, truly you do unto yourself also. Resolve to treat yourself and others well. Know that we truly each have the power within us to change ourselves, which is our contribution to changing the world. We CAN change the world. Look around: we ARE changing the world. One step at a time, starting from right where we are, right here and right now.
Note: When read slowly into a tape recorder and replayed and contemplated deeply, this is a powerful visualization which can help transform your consciousness.
