{"id":7834,"date":"2010-03-02T00:54:31","date_gmt":"2010-03-02T05:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=7834"},"modified":"2015-05-29T17:38:07","modified_gmt":"2015-05-29T22:38:07","slug":"balancing-my-checkbook-balancing-my-sleep-routine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/balancing-my-checkbook-balancing-my-sleep-routine\/","title":{"rendered":"Balancing my checkbook, balancing my sleep routine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went to the market yesterday morning and bought some fresh asparagus, snow peas and organic broccoli.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been craving fresh greens and have eaten a lot of them the past two weeks.\u00a0 Yesterday I got on the scale for the first time in a week and I was down five pounds!\u00a0 Wow, and without trying, I like that.\u00a0 I even bought a rotisserie chicken and ate that for 3 days.\u00a0 I avoided starches while I had my <a href=\"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=7805\" target=\"_blank\">head\/chest\u00a0 congestion<\/a>, so that likely caused the weight loss.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t even think about my weight now, which is cool. It took a couple of years of consciously eating the things that are best for me to develop my new eating habit, b ut now it&#8217;s second nature. \u00a0 I&#8217;ve been wanting a lot of<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goddessgrub.com\/Goddessgrub\/Light_soups.html\" target=\"_blank\"> light vegetable soups<\/a> lately, and I make a small <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goddessgrub.com\/Goddessgrub\/Mini_soups.html\" target=\"_blank\">one or two serving soup<\/a> at a time so I can have a different one each day.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>With the March <a href=\"http:\/\/www.horizonsmagazine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Horizons Magazine<\/a> now out, my job for yesterday was to balance my personal checkbook.\u00a0 I have gotten much better the past couple of years in that I remember to log in my entries at the time they are made, and I no longer round up my check amounts and round down my deposits in the check register.\u00a0 I generally know within a hundred dollars or so what I have in the account.\u00a0 But for the past two months my bank statements have shown me to have over $1,000 more than I thought I had.\u00a0 I kept waiting for checks to clear and it wasn&#8217;t until yesterday morning that I actually sat down to look at it.<\/p>\n<p>Now the Horizons checkbook I balance every two weeks, but I only use the Andrea account for my personal bills and utilities, so it doesn&#8217;t get as much action.\u00a0 I could see some months I&#8217;d checked off in the register and some I didn&#8217;t, so I went back to June 2009 and balanced my checkbook forward.\u00a0 The online balance said $1,700.\u00a0 My register said $160.\u00a0 I only had $550 in checks outstanding.<\/p>\n<p>I found I made deposits that I didn&#8217;t log into the register. I&#8217;m glad it was in my favor, but I&#8217;m not sure how I could have gotten that far off.\u00a0 When I make a deposit to that account, it&#8217;s because I have bills to pay, and that&#8217;s the amount that gets transferred into it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not like $1,000 is a drop in the bucket to me, that&#8217;s a chunk of change.\u00a0 I&#8217;d notice if I missed paying $1,000 worth of bills right quick.\u00a0 Why wouldn&#8217;t I notice that the deposits hadn&#8217;t been logged in to the register?\u00a0 I stuck the overage in the savings account as overdraft protection, just in case.<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t imagine how I made those big glaring errors without realizing it. <em>Well, yes I do, working without enough sleep for weeks at a time maybe.<\/em> I&#8217;ve been sleeping more the past couple of weeks and it really feels good to lounge around for hours longer than I usually do.\u00a0 I figure my body will sleep when it needs to, but I admit when I take an extra 4 hours to sleep each day I feel lots more alert and energetic and on the ball.\u00a0 Usually I sleep 4 hours twice a day.\u00a0 Right now 6 hours at night feels good.<\/p>\n<p>I guess the lesson in balancing my personal checkbook had to do with me balancing my personal energy resources, meaning sleep as well.\u00a0 It&#8217;s nice to have a lot stored up for when you need it later.\u00a0 Dollars and sleep.\u00a0 And nice to know there&#8217;s a surplus in case I need it.<\/p>\n<p>Andrea<\/p>\n<p>LISTEN FREE:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/CD_Page\/index.html\">MP3 Samples: Re-Program Your Eating Habits, Sleepytime Recharge, You Are Not The Body;
