Rather, workers must prove it&#8217;s the deciding factor in the case. <\/em> Which is all well and good, but most cases aren&#8217;t about age at all, but rather about attitude and presence.\u00a0 And attitude and presence are things we have personal control over, regardless of age.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We know about attitude.\u00a0 Everyone likes someone who is pleasant, a team player and easy to get along with.\u00a0 Including employers.\u00a0 Given the same job and having the same skills, one pleasant employee, one not so ~ in a crunch the boss will always keep the pleasant employee and let the ornery one go.<\/p>\n<p>What do I mean by presence?\u00a0 Presence is the total way you carry yourself and how you are perceived by others.\u00a0 If someone were to spy on you while you were working, would they see someone who appeared clean, with attention to detail as far as personal appearance and dress.\u00a0 Would they see someone working in organized fashion in a careful and methodical way?\u00a0 Would they see someone who spoke with pleasant and professional courtesy to everyone?\u00a0 Would they see someone who really appeared to know shat she was doing, and did it well?\u00a0 Would you exude the presence of someone who really had their act together, knew their job, enjoyed their work and could figure out how to get just about anything done that needed to be done? Would they see someone who they would be proud to have represent their company?<\/p>\n<p>With that kind of presence, it won&#8217;t matter if you&#8217;re 40 or 70.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll have your choice of jobs.\u00a0 Not so much for the same-skilled employees who are <em>kind of<\/em> critical and<em> kind of<\/em> ornery and <em>kind of<\/em> gossipy and <em>kind of <\/em>diva-ish and spend more work time discussing their personal life than adding to the value of their employer.\u00a0 If someone else has the same skills and a more pleaasant attitude, it will be <em>adios, muchacha<\/em> for them in a down sizing.<\/p>\n<p>Your employer doesn&#8217;t owe you a job.\u00a0 The reason you&#8217;re there is to help keep the company cohesive and to work together with your fellow employees to make it a success.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not proud to work there, leave.\u00a0 Now.\u00a0 Do yourself that favor, and allow your employer to fill the slot with someone who wants to help make them a success.
