{"id":41969,"date":"2010-11-17T11:52:59","date_gmt":"2010-11-17T16:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=41969"},"modified":"2015-07-19T12:09:55","modified_gmt":"2015-07-19T17:09:55","slug":"my-iron-and-vitamin-scores-after-taking-supplements-for-30-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/my-iron-and-vitamin-scores-after-taking-supplements-for-30-days\/","title":{"rendered":"My iron and vitamin scores after taking supplements for 30 days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After writing<a href=\"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=41978\">\u00a0<u><u>What I\u2019m doing to increase the iron in my body<\/u><\/u>\u00a0<\/a>on October 7th, I began taking\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emedicinehealth.com\/drug-docusate_and_ferrous_fumarate\/article_em.htm\"><u>Ferro Sequels<\/u><\/a><\/u> as an iron supplement. \u00a0 On October 5th, my iron score was a low of 47.\u00a0 On November 11th it scored 65.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if that has to do with taking supplements or not. I just found out that I should be taking the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emedicinehealth.com\/drug-docusate_and_ferrous_fumarate\/article_em.htm\"><u>Ferro Sequels<\/u><\/a><\/u> on an empty stomach and that eating it with certain foods inhibits absorption.\u00a0 My bad.\u00a0 Maybe it will test higher after another 30 days.\u00a0 I did two extra tests at\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wuesthoffreferencelab.com\/\"><u>the lab\u00a0<\/u><\/a><\/u>this time, one for Vitamin D and one for Vitamin B12. I began taking the Vitamin B12 after a friend told me she had\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.webmd.com\/a-to-z-guides\/vitamin-b12-deficiency-anemia-topic-overview\"><u>the deficiency symptoms<\/u><\/a><\/u>, which included feeling tired all the time.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019d begun being tired, so thought I\u2019d take some, too.\u00a0 The results of the blood test show that my <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzle.com\/articles\/vitamin-b12-overdose.html\"><u>Vitamin B12<\/u><\/a><\/u>, which I have only taken maybe once a day for the past month, skipping some days altogether, scores high at 1166.\u00a0 They say the optimum level is 211-911 PG\/ML.\u00a0 Everyone has a different idea of what a normal or optimum range is.\u00a0 I\u2019m thinking I can stop taking the B12.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I began taking a Vitamin D supplement\u00a0<u>http:\/\/www.vitacost.com\/Source-Naturals-Vitamin-D-400-IU-100-Tablets<\/u>400 IU 3 times a day for a month after hearing the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vitaminddeficiencysymptomsguide.com\/low-vitamin-d-levels-in-blood\/\"><u>symptoms for Vitamin D deficiency<\/u><\/a><\/u>&gt;\u00a0included low energy, fatigue, crankiness.\u00a0 I was more low energy than cranky, but figured I might need it.\u00a0 The test results for my \u201cVitamin D, 25 hydroxy\u201d score was low at 28.\u00a0\u00a0And that is after taking it three times a day for a month before the test!\u00a0It says the optimum level is 30-80 ng\/mL.\u00a0 In December I doubled my dosage\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/findarticles.com\/p\/articles\/mi_m0ISW\/is_280\/ai_n16865219\/\"><u>after reading more about it<\/u><\/a><\/u>, and am now taking two 400 IU tabs three times a day, after eating.\u00a0\u00a0<u><a href=\"http:\/\/health.usnews.com\/health-news\/blogs\/on-women\/2009\/08\/05\/how-much-vitamin-d-should-you-be-taking\"><u>People with higher rates of vitamin D in their blood have lower rates of disease and lower death rate, wind up with fewer bone fractures and fewer falls<\/u><\/a><\/u>.\u00a0 I can\u2019t remember when I last had a cold.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been eating frozen yogurt each day, and it\u2019s the only dairy I get.\u00a0 The flip side is that dairy is said to inhibit absorption of iron.\u00a0 I know that since I began a regular iron and vitamin routine last month, I\u2019ve been sleeping 6-7 hours at a stretch rather than my typical 3-4 hours at a time.
