{"id":40738,"date":"2013-03-20T03:46:54","date_gmt":"2013-03-20T08:46:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=40738"},"modified":"2015-05-31T03:47:35","modified_gmt":"2015-05-31T08:47:35","slug":"yesterdays-adventures-in-septic-system-discovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/yesterdays-adventures-in-septic-system-discovery\/","title":{"rendered":"Yesterday\u2019s adventures in septic system discovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two years ago,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=12298\">A Better Septic rejuvenated my septic system<\/a>.\u00a0Yesterday\u00a0I had a toilet clog unexpectedly, so I went out and dug to check the cleanout for the black water relief.\u00a0 That\u2019s often where you find there\u2019s a clog or a root growing into the system.\u00a0 I saw standing water.\u00a0 I unscrewed the cap and looked in the one white inspection port filter that raises above the back lawn, and saw a few inches of standing water.\u00a0 I called\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.brevardseptic.com\/\">A Better Septic\u00a0<\/a>and asked for info on cleaning the filter.\u00a0 I learned it\u2019s not as simple as the installer made it sound.\u00a0 You have to dig up the drainfield and lift up the concrete top to access the filter.\u00a0\u00a0 They could not give me a price on doing that since it is a job they do only with other services.\u00a0 I felt I was not told ahead of time the maintenance would be costly and not easily done by me.\u00a0 I\u2019m sure it\u2019s just a misunderstanding and when John arrives today at 5:00pm, he will evaluate the situation and make a recommendation everyone will be happy with.\u00a0 Later, a friend came by and within an hour we\u2019d found there was indeed a paper clog, so the situation may have resolved itself.\u00a0 My question now is: what and where exactly ARE these filters and how and when do I change\/clean them and what would have happened to the paper clog had it gone through?
