{"id":7139,"date":"2010-01-20T00:01:15","date_gmt":"2010-01-20T05:01:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=7139"},"modified":"2014-10-05T15:01:53","modified_gmt":"2014-10-05T19:01:53","slug":"a-stranger-buys-my-lunch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/a-stranger-buys-my-lunch\/","title":{"rendered":"A Stranger Buys My Lunch"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was a day of errands.\u00a0 I went to the bank, the post office, to Office Depot, to The Waterman, to the produce stand for carrots, celery, scallions and mushrooms. On the way home, I went to the new Thai Thai House on Palm Bay Road at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hammocklandingfl.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hammock Landing<\/a> for an early lunch.\u00a0 I had their volcano roll, which is a California roll with baked seafood <a href=\"http:\/\/archives.starbulletin.com\/2004\/05\/12\/features\/request.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;dynamite&#8221;<\/a> on top, and a cup of miso soup. Only one other diner was in there &#8211; it was only 11:15am &#8211; and so we talked as we ate. He&#8217;s down here helping out his grandparents and is job hunting.\u00a0 It was his first Thai food experience. When my dish came, I placed a portion on a separate plate and shared with him so he could taste an extra dish. He was young, maybe 30.\u00a0 I was going to secretly buy his lunch on my way out. He left first and secretly bought mine! And what a cool kid.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I wrote on Facebook, &#8220;What a cool kid, he read my mind.\u00a0 Yeah, <em>read my mind and &#8211; typical man &#8211; got it backwards.<\/em>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Patricia L Bell wrote: &#8220;Animal totem &#8211; cougar hmm maybe a match made in heaven. WE all knew each other from a spirit plane, before we walk our first steps here on this plane&#8230;&#8230;&#8230; Shall we dance???&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I agree with David, who I know in real life; it is interesting to see in retrospect I referred to him as a kid.\u00a0 I think I have fallen into that habit of referring to anyone who is young enough to be my spawn as a kid.\u00a0 That might seem disrespectful.\u00a0 Kind of like when 20 year olds &#8220;ma&#8217;am&#8221; us or when young restaurant servers call us &#8220;honey&#8221;.\u00a0 No harm meant, just automatic phrases we&#8217;ve heard for years.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll have to watch that in the future.
