{"id":6596,"date":"2009-12-17T06:11:09","date_gmt":"2009-12-17T11:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=6596"},"modified":"2014-06-27T01:59:33","modified_gmt":"2014-06-27T05:59:33","slug":"my-festival-of-sleep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/my-festival-of-sleep\/","title":{"rendered":"My Festival of Sleep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been sleeping a lot lately and enjoying the feeling of my bed. I&#8217;ve never been a recreational sleeper, sleep is just something I do when I need to recharge.\u00a0 I just as often fall asleep in my office chair as I do my recliner or the fainting couch in my studio.\u00a0 Lately I&#8217;ve been making myself walk into my bedroom and go to sleep in my bed.\u00a0 And stay there for a minimum\u00a0 of 6 hours.\u00a0 Right now my body is working best when I make myself take extra rest, so I&#8217;ve been dawdling in bed as I wake up.\u00a0 Instead of just jumping up and into work, I make myself stay in bed until I&#8217;ve been there 6 hours in a row.\u00a0 That usually means two hours left over.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been really enjoying the feel of the sheets, and the softness of the coverlet.\u00a0 I have a feather pillow and I like to scrunch it into just the right position under my head and neck.\u00a0 It&#8217;s warm here, so I have the fan blowing on me, and I enjoy the feeling of that.\u00a0 I listen for the sounds of the crickets outside, or the birds, or the dew dripping from the oak and bamboo leaves onto the ground.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I take the time to prepave my day, to go over my list of things to be done, and see myself moving through them quickly.\u00a0 I take the time to wish friends well and say some prayers for the peace of the world.\u00a0 But the point is I make myself stay prone for the entire six hours.\u00a0 And I feel better at the end of the day, I have more energy by doing that.<\/p>\n<p>I saw friends Susan and Gajendra Giles, and others, at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yogashakti.org\" target=\"_blank\">Yoga Shakti Mission<\/a> the other day, and it&#8217;s good to see everyone is slimming down and staying fit.\u00a0 Susan has the body of a 25 year old.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re getting older, ah so.\u00a0 And so what &#8211; we&#8217;re getting better.
