Here&#8217;s how to stop it from automatically downloading"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"quote-text\" data-reactid=\".s9be6f9yww.$default.0.0.2.5.0.0.$Col1-0-ContentCanvasProxy.$Col1-0-ContentCanvas.0.4.0:$2.0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Win10-no.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-43872\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-43872\" src=\"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Win10-no-300x189.jpg\" alt=\"Win10-no\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Win10-no-300x189.jpg 300w, http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/Win10-no.jpg 432w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>When Windows 10 kept trying to automatically install on my Windows 8 computer, I bought a new computer specifically to have one with Windows 10.\u00a0 I&#8217;m, glad I did because it would not let me run my versions of Adobe InDesign (my mag layout program), AccountEdge (my billing program) nor my astrology or anagram programs.\u00a0 Years ago I didn&#8217;t think of that when I bought a new computer, and it cost me $1,000+ to upgrade my programs to run with the new OS.\u00a0 Now, I learn &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/tech\/microsoft-now-aggressively-pushing-windows-140551286.html?src=rss\">Microsoft is now aggressively pushing Windows 10 upgrades<\/a>&#8221; and starting this week, Microsoft is recategorizing Windows 10 as a &#8220;recommended update&#8221; in its Windows Update system. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">That means the Windows 10 upgrade process will download and start <strong>automatically<\/strong> on Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 unless you do something to stop it.<\/span><\/p>\n<h1 class=\"quote-text\" data-reactid=\".s9be6f9yww.$default.0.0.2.5.0.0.$Col1-0-ContentCanvasProxy.$Col1-0-ContentCanvas.0.4.0:$2.0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/betanews.com\/2016\/01\/18\/dont-want-windows-10-heres-how-to-say-no-to-the-upgrade-in-windows-7-and-8-1\/\">HOW TO STOP IT FROM HAPPENING:<\/a><\/h1>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Fed up with Microsoft aggressively pushing Windows 10 on you? Happy to stick with Windows 7 or 8.1? You\u2019re not alone.\u00a0 Microsoft doesn\u2019t make it easy to say no to Windows 10 (wouldn\u2019t it be great if there was a &#8220;no thanks&#8221; button you could click to make the upgrade message and installation files simply go away?) but you can reject it using a Group Policy Setting or a registry tweak.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/betanews.com\/2016\/01\/18\/dont-want-windows-10-heres-how-to-say-no-to-the-upgrade-in-windows-7-and-8-1\/\" target=\"_blank\">Here&#8217;s how to stop it from happening<\/a>:<\/p>\n<div class=\"articleBoxad\">To block the Windows 10 upgrade using Group Policy (only available on Pro, Business and Enterprise editions) you may firstly need to download and install an update for your version of Windows.<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 users need <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/kb\/3065987\" target=\"_blank\">KB3065987<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 users need <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/kb\/3065988\" target=\"_blank\">KB3065988<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once installed, restart your PC and navigate to <strong>Computer Configuration &gt; Policies &gt; Administrative Templates &gt; Windows Components &gt; Windows Update<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Double-click on <strong>Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Enable<\/strong> to action the setting.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, if you don\u2019t have the Group Policy Editor you can use the Registry Editor to block the upgrade, although it may not be as effective.<\/p>\n<p>Navigate to <strong>HKLM\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\WindowsUpdate<\/strong>. Right-click and select <strong>New &gt; Dword (32-bit) Value<\/strong>. Call this <strong>DisableOSUpgrade<\/strong> and give it a value of <strong>1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Next go to <strong>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Windows\\GWX<\/strong>. Create a new Dword (32-bit) Value and call it <strong>DisableGWX<\/strong>. Double-click it and set its value to <strong>1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, another option you might want to consider is to install the <a href=\"http:\/\/ultimateoutsider.com\/downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\">GWX Control Panel<\/a> which handles all of the hard work for you and does a great job of blocking the upgrade.<br \/>\n&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>A friend gives this link and says &#8220;<span data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\"><span class=\"UFICommentBody\">Many programs have provided updates to their software to work with Win10. Have you checked with yours? Also, some versions of Win10 have an emulator to allow you to run older programs.
