{"id":16229,"date":"2011-08-16T07:37:44","date_gmt":"2011-08-16T11:37:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=16229"},"modified":"2011-08-25T05:44:51","modified_gmt":"2011-08-25T09:44:51","slug":"im-not-just-readying-a-rental-im-creating-a-home-for-someone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/im-not-just-readying-a-rental-im-creating-a-home-for-someone\/","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;m not just readying a rental, I&#8217;m creating a home for someone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A friend asked me yesterday how the construction was going with <a href=\"http:\/\/horizonsmagazine.com\/blog\/?p=16171\">my rental<\/a>.\u00a0 She follows my progress on Facebook and is surprised I take so much of it in stride. \u00a0She&#8217;s a landlord, too, and knows how aggravating tenant damage can be. \u00a0For me, at this stage of my life, it&#8217;s a no brainer. \u00a0I think of the truth of the situation: \u00a0I had an ideal tenant who paid rent on time for nine years. \u00a0Ok, so she moved out with little notice and no deposit, and as she was a smoker, I have to clean every surface, or replace or paint it. For me that means not only replacing all ceiling lights and ceiling fans, but all wall receptacles and light switches, medicine cabinets as well as carpet. \u00a0I think my out of pocket is just under $2,000 so far. \u00a0So I can&#8217;t really complain about the situation. \u00a0She&#8217;d still be there had she not developed a serious health problem and had to move in with family. \u00a0I&#8217;m glad she had a happy nine years there and like to think I contributed to her happy life. \u00a0So I know that I&#8217;m not just readying a rental, I&#8217;m creating a home for
