Aah Jim’s Don’t Panic Weather Update for 8-1-20 at 5:00pm EDT for Hurricane Isaias

Aah Jim is a local coastal storm expert in disaster recovery. This is the 5 pm EDT update for Aug 1st by the Don’t Panic Weather Service. The National Hurricane Center has revised their projection to show Isaias dropping to Tropical Storm strength by Sun night. Currently Isaias has already dropped to Tropical Storm strength and most models predict it never recovering the Cat 1 wind strength. In the Windfield diagram pictured, the overall storm has shrunk in size and strength mostly in the 40 – 60 mph range. Only the weaker western edge will impact Florida’s Atlantic coast. If the models are right we can expect the max wind speeds of the cities to drop further. Here are the current Maximum Sustained winds and times:

Miami: 29 mph out of the N at midnight Sat
West Palm: 34 mph out of the N at 6 am Sun
Ft Pierce: 36 mph out of the N at noon Sun
Vero Beach: 38 mph out of the N at 3 pm Sun
Melbourne Beach:40 mph out of the NW at 9 pm Sun
Cocoa Beach: 39 mph out of the NW at 7 pm Sun
Daytona: 42 mph out of the N at 3 am Mon
Jacksonville: 27 mph out of the N at 6 am Mon
