AUGUST 1999 Every Moment is A New Beginning The decisions you make today determine what your experience will be tomorrow No matter how hard the past has been, it's over. What you're living right now is the result of every thought you've had the past few months and years, and you're also living the result of every decision you've made up to now. If what you're living right now is not what you want, you can begin to change it starting today. You've already begun to change it by reading these words and being inspired to reach for a happier, fuller life than you have now. You can begin right now to make small changes in your life so that within weeks you can be living more of the way you want to live.
To begin, first you must get clear on what changes you feel are needed. To do this, make a list of each area of your life that you would like to see some change in. For each subject, write down exactly what it is you want. This is the hardest part and it's the most important part. Why are you writing this down? Because when you're writing, you're at your most focused point of attention. Writing helps you get clear in a way that thinking does not. When you're writing, you notice immediately when a thought or sentence is incomplete. When you're thinking, you forget and leave thoughts unfinished as you move from subject to subject. So writing is a very important part of the practice. Make your lists of things you'd like to change. For each item, list any ideas that come to mind that you might do right now to begin changing the situation. For instance, for problems at work with fHellow employees, you might start withholding comments and keeping out of their conversations. Begin with forgiveness. Start now to be absolutely honest, and that also means no exaggeration. Start now to say no to whatever you don't want to do. Don't make excuses. You're simply not available to do it. Start now to demand that everyone that you are responsible for now becomes more responsible for themselves. Decide now which friends add to your peace and upliftment, and which do not. As you become clearer about what you want in life, you also become clearer as to who you know that follows a similar path or has similar intentions, and who does not. Decide now which social activities add to your upliftment and enjoyment, and which do not. Begin now to eliminate from your life any activity that isn't completely fun or meaningful to you in some way. Begin a daily practice for at least 30 days of writing, expressing gratitude for what you have now and expressing forgiveness to anyone who needs it. (You don't forgive for them, you forgive for you.) Daily prayer and affirmations help as well.
A few favorite affirmations of mine are: I say the second affirmation about 500 times a day, about 50 times an hour, every hour on the hour. it just takes a few minutes and as you say it, you begin to actually feel that it's true. After you've said it for a few days, a realization will begin to sink in and it will help change your perspective for you. The bottom line is, there are many ways to begin changing your life in small ways, and you can begin now to change everything about your life so that months, even weeks from now, your life can take on new meaning and you can be headed in a more fulfilling direction. I can't wait to see what I learn in the 21st century. |
