MARCH 1999
Ah, Spring! Don't forget to plan a fun celebration for Spring Equinox on March 20. Now is the time to begin spring cleaning and plant that herb garden you've been wanting. I've been doing some gardening myself, I cleared away a small patch of land in my backyard and fed the soil and planted some bush beans, New Zealand spinach, yellow squash, sweet potato and kale. It's fun to go out each morning and take a few minutes to water the garden and see what progress has been made since the day before. Sometimes I see that a raccoon or armadillo has been snooping around, so I put in an extra seed or two to replace what they've rooted away ~ after all, it's their garden, too! Isn't that what stewardship of the Earth is all about?
Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my work that I forget to do restful things like being outdoors and just relaxing and doing nothing. I got a good reminder last month when a friend and I were in a little fender bender and I got a good whack on the head. The result was some temporary loss of memory, the biggest of which was forgetting how to use my layout program on the computer! Being an Aries - the ram - I've had a few concussions in my time, and my memory returns quickly each time, so I'm not worried. Right after it happened, it was confusing doing almost any kind of left brain/analytical thinking, and instead of freaking out about it, I just decided to catch up on my right brain/creative activities!
I dug out my art supplies and did some sketching and painting; I began weeding and mulching my garden. I took time to just lie in the sun and daydream, watching the clouds go by. I gave myself a manicure, a pedicure, and spent long hours in hot soapy baths. I caught up on doing my telephone readings and I took long, meandering walks in the woods with my cats. I caught up on all the activities I love to do and seldom make time for. I figured the Universe gave me a knock on the head to remind me to slow down and take time for myself, and I was ready to comply! Of course, I spent part of each day being grateful for how blessed I am ~ even when bad things happen to me, they aren't really bad. May it ever be so!
I want to say a special thanks this month for my sweet friend and soul sister, Cecelia Danas who has been such an enormous help to me this past year with Horizons Magazine. I'm truly blessed by her friendship and thank her from the bottom of my heart for all she's done and all she continues to do, for me, and for others.
So remember to take time this month for yourself; take time to slow down and smell the roses. Take time to do some Spring cleaning, and rid yourself of any extra "baggage." Take time to think of who has made your life easier this past year, and give them a big hug and a big thanks.
