NOVEMBER 2005
What about curses and spells? What can you do to protect yourself? Shifting your attention to break the spell. Remembering you are the attractor of your experience. How to re-progam yourself.
Hello and welcome to the November 2005 edition of Horizons Magazine. As I sit to write this, we are experiencing the first cool, crisp day of the season and all my windows and doors are wide open - for the first time since last May! I can't wait to get out in my yard and do everything I didn't do in it all summer because I was too busy whining about the heat and humidity. And I know exactly where I am going to set up my tent for those cool overnights in the woods!
I got an interesting email the other day and since it's a question I get often, I wanted to share it with you.
Dear Andrea:
I just wanted to ask you a really strange question. If you feel that someone is doing you harm, maybe gypsies, what can you do to protect yourself from them? I know that sounds off the wall and a little crazy, but some really strange things have been happening around me lately. Jennifer in FL
I responded:
Jennifer, hi, your question doesn't sound crazy or off the wall at all. It is a good question from someone who doesn't understand how they attract situations and people into their experience.
The first thing to remember is that no matter what the problem, it is really only your thoughts you're dealing with. Next, remember that you have the power to change your thoughts. Of course that's not easy until you've practiced the habit of doing it. It may initially take disciplined mental work to stop thinking about what is bothering you, and change your thoughts to something more pleasant.
When you are able to shift your attention, even for a short while, you essentially "break the spell" the other thought had over you. When you're able to shift your attention and break the spell, the activity in your experience will change. The problem will begin to dissipate, or the person involved will move away from the situation.
It doesn't matter if you're worrying over bills that need to be paid, or insufficient income, or something the media is reporting, or a disgruntled gypsy fortuneteller casting a spell over you.
It boils down to what do you choose to focus on and why. Yes, it's absolutely that simple. If you are at that place in your mind right now where you believe that someone is negatively impacting your experience - nonphysically or otherwise - then you have an expectation of things happening as a consequence of that.
What things might be a consequence? Well, that depends on what you have ever been programmed to believe might happen. That depends on how many movies and tv shows you've seen where someone invoked a curse or cast a spell on another, and how the movie played out the consequences. Or how many times you've heard someone recount all the things that happened to them when they thought they had been under a curse.
It doesn't matter if any of the tales were true, the relevance is that it is these images and words and thoughts that programmed you to have whatever expectation you have about possible consequences.
Whatever you've got an expectation of, you are going to see evidence of it in your life. Anytime you are observing evidence of it, you're vibrating right in harmony with it, which means more evidence of it will show up, the more you observe it. And if you're not "seeing" it but are merely thinking about it, well, that's observation also. And that means more of it is on the way.
Unless you've got evidence of it and then have resistance to it. Resistance in this case might be the thought that: since you're only dealing with a thoughtform, when you stop giving it fuel, it will dissipate itself. Or the thought that: maybe I'm only thinking I might be cursed because I have things in my past that I haven't resolved or made peace with that I think karma might be bringing back to me.
I even forget what I know. Just this week I was whining to my friend Suzie about something for 2 days before I caught myself. Before I reminded myself that I am the attractor of my experience. Before I remembered that it is within my power to change my thoughts so that I am thinking about what I want to attract. Since the Universe is going to deliver to me more of what I am thinking about, it's in my best interest to keep my mind on all the things I enjoy and love and have fun with, so I can attract more of it. I woke up remembering that and immediately sent Suzie an apology and had a good laugh about myself.
It took me lots of years to realize that my habit of thought and expectation wasn't always what I wanted to attract more of into my life! When I discovered I was in charge of that, my world changed. Literally. When I discovered that through just re-scripting my self-talk, the inner dialogue that is my stream of consciousness, and replacing careless words and phrases with productive ones, it was a giant A-Ha! I call it Thought Replacement TherapyTM. My life got happier, I attracted more genuine people around me, I had more fun, I made more money, I felt - and feel -invincible and powerful, as though I can achieve anything I set my mind to. And all that changed was my perception. All that changed was that I decided to train my mind to work for me, rather than against me.
Ilene Segalove, author of Snap Out Of It: 101 Ways To Get Out Of Your Rut & Into Your Groove writes: "Humans are billions of individual cells arranged in an infinite array of different patterns that organize themselves into our very unique being. Your hand is a set of patterns. so are your liver and your uvula. Your brain also expresses itself as different patterns. It creates its own set of networks in response to stimuli and repeated actions. Networks are neural off-ramps onto ways of doing and being. When we use these off-ramps over and over again, we fall into habit. Our most habitual roadmaps become etched in our brain circuitry and become guidelines for our behavior.
"Yet the brain is considered a plastic medium. It can change shape, and does. Adult brains refashion themselves according to the demands of the owner. It's like we're all heads of our own department of roadwork - if we want to stop traveling the same old Main Street over and over again, we need to build new freeways and bridges and tunnels."
In other words, "if you always think what you've always thought, you'll always get what you've always gotten." You just have to set the intention to begin to train your mind so you're able to hold focus long enough to attract what you want to you. And when you do that, everything you don't want, everyone you are no longer interested in, will begin to slip away. Daily meditation will strengthen your willpower to maintain focus and attention, and your creat-ive visualizations, your pre-pavings of the future, will be more powerful and effective.
What I would do is remember how powerful a creator I can be when I am consciously focused on a topic. What I would do is remember that no matter how an appearance of negative influence shows up, that God/Goddess/the Universe is greater than that and has my best interest at heart. Then I'd turn my attention to happier things.
Some people would say "you don't need to do all that, just stop thinking the thought" and that's true as well. But in the past I have found rituals to be helpful in bridging the gap until I was more settled in my own consciousness. Ritual can be a good support system - especially to a solitary practitioner - if that is how you perceive it. And that is how I perceive it. Then when I look back on the troubling time in my life, my last thought about it - my strongest thought about it - is that it has been released and I am protected henceforth. And your last thought about something sets your vibrational tone on that topic. Abraham teaches that your vibration always stays where you left it last.
In this case, I would do a short ritual - short but well planned out. This is similar to what I do at each full moon. First, I set the intention - by saying the words verbally to self - that I am going to make a list of whatever is going on in my life that I am ready to be free of, with the intent that whatever I write down is going to be solved or resolved. Then I write down all my thoughts on it. When this is done, I set the writing aside and set a time to do my ritual, maybe in a few hours, or at sunset, midnight or at sunrise. I then go on to other things until time for the ritual. This is to let the importance of what I am doing sink in to my consciousness. Personally, I always shower at the end of the writing, just to wash those thoughts completely off me. At the designated time, I take my writing to my chimenea, or you can use a burning bowl or a firepit. I say a prayer and state my intention that by the act of the burning of what I have written down, I am releasing the situation and the people involved, and that they will no longer be part of my experience. I ask that God bless those involved, including me, and move us all into the Light where we may continue to grow and prosper. Then as the burning is happening, I maintain the thought that I am burning away all obstacles to my happiness; that I am releasing all negativity.
It all boils down to moving beyond your past programming and your past belief systems, at least the ones that are keeping you from moving out of your present situation. I've personally done a lot of reprogramming in just the last 12 months and many things have changed in my life as a result of it. I have been forced to get current with technology, and been made to upgrade a lot of the equipment that helps make Horizons possible and helps keep Andrea more comfortable and productive. Many of these things I have been putting off for years and figured when the time came, I'd move forward then. My hesitation was always that I "didn't have time" to learn new programs, I "didn't know how" certain things worked so I didn't want to get involved with it until I had to. What a procrastinator and whiner I can be! As usual, now that I am on the other side of it, I wonder why I made such a fuss and wished I'd done it years earlier.
One thing was that my 20+ years old hand dictation unit gave out and I replaced it with a digital sound recorder. Previously, I'd record sessions for clients using the hand unit, and give them the cassette. Now that I have gone digital, the sound quality has improved and I can now record directly to cd. I formerly offered a hypnotic series on cassette until my master tapes got too old and I never made time to re-record them. Now being excited about my new digital recorder, I promptly updated my old scripts and am re-recording them and on page 19 I have an ad giving the details. The first is for Healthy Weight & Fitness and is designed to program healthy eating habits and get you up and wanting to exercise and move around. The second is entitled Contacting Your Angels, Guides & Teachers and is designed to activate the third eye, expand awareness, develop psychic perception and help you become receptive to inner guidance. Many people have told me that they had their first inner experience after listening to this tape. I love to hear that and I love to be a catalyst to help connect someone with their own inner guidance.
Do you have to listen to a tape or pay anyone anything in order to do that? No. But once again, it can be a useful tool to bridge the gap between past programming and what you want to achieve. Whatever helps you relax into the thought of that possibility also helps bring you into vibrational resonance with it. And as you consider it, and believe it and expect it, you attract it.
Enjoy our offering this month. I give thanks for all of you during this Thanksgiving season, because without YOU there would be no ME. Hari Om.
